Every candidate who seeks public office should be asked one simple question… Why do you wish to hold public office?
I am glad to answer this question as it pertains to "Why do I wish to hold the office of Plainfield Township Trustee?" I want to retain my position as a Plainfield Township Trustee because I very simply have a great desire to serve. First and foremost I have, and will continue to, serve as the fiscally responsible, fiscally conservative voice of the people on the township board. Being a steward of the taxpayers' hard earned money is a serious responsibility. The township offers many great services and supports a multitude of others, all on a very limited budget. To this point we as a board must be very frugal when using the financial resources the residents have afforded us. Over the course of the past five years I have implemented spending limits on non-essential township business. This alone has saved the residents of our township thousands of dollars. I certainly plan on continuing my conservative fiscal approach if elected to a new term.
Ideals
I don't condone "politics as usual." I vehemently oppose and speak out against any public figure that has taken the public trust for granted. I believe in honest, transparent representation that errs on the side of high ethical conscience and morals! To elaborate a little on where I stand on some of the local issues read on…
- Taxes: We all have to pay them, however, you can rest assured that I will be your watchdog on how they are spent at the township level.
- I55 interchange: Definitely a need for anyone who commutes into and out of our township. At this point the most logical concept is to make the Route 126 partial interchange into a full interchange. I cannot support an interchange at Lockport Street, prior to the completion of a full interchange at Route 126.
- Expansion of Route 59- Certainly a bottleneck we all endure. Plans are already in place for the widening project to begin.
- Edward Hospital: An absolute necessity. I wholly support the Edward Plan. I also encourage the expansion of the Provena site in Joliet. Although our growth has slowed a little, there seem to be more than enough residents to support both facilities at opposite ends of our township.
Goals
- Write an Ethics Code for the Township Board
- Continue conservative fiscal policy
- Develop a youth program at the township
- Expand the Senior Shuttle Service
- Review the Tax Levy process
I ask for your support on April 7, 2009
